By Paragon ·
After two years away from competition, Inioluwa returned with personal bests and receives ₦500,000 toward a US college pathway.
For Nigerian sprinter Inioluwa Mebawondu, the journey in athletics has required resilience, patience, and a commitment to keep moving forward despite challenges. After losing two years of competition to financial and logistical difficulties, she returned to the track and achieved personal bests in both the 100m and 200m. Now, she is working towards an opportunity to compete at a US college while pursuing her broader ambitions in sports and human performance.
Building a Career Through Athletics
Inioluwa is a sprinter at Eagle Sprint Athletics Club in Lagos, Nigeria, where she trains under Coach Olatunji Afolabi. She began running shortly after completing secondary school and was recruited by MoC that same year.
Her dedication has produced personal bests of 10.51 seconds in the 100m and 22.04 seconds in the 200m. However, her progress has not been without interruption. Financial and logistical challenges kept her away from competition for two years, creating barriers to her continued development.
Despite these setbacks, Inioluwa returned to competition and recorded her personal bests, demonstrating her determination to keep pursuing her athletic goals.
Beyond the Track
Inioluwa holds a degree in Human Kinetics and Health Education from the University of Lagos. Her interests extend beyond competing, as she hopes to build a career in sports and human performance.
She plans to pursue further studies in Kinesiology and Exercise Science, a path that would allow her to deepen her understanding of human movement, athletic performance, and sports development.
Her immediate goal is to join a US college track and field team in Spring 2027. Reaching this milestone would provide an opportunity to continue developing as an athlete while advancing her education.
Support Through the Athlete Impact Fund
The transition to international collegiate athletics comes with significant financial and administrative requirements. Inioluwa identified NCAA registration, credential evaluation, visa application expenses, training, and race entries as important costs standing between her and the next stage of her journey.
Through the Athlete Impact Fund (AIF) 2.0, Paragon Sports Development Foundation is awarding Inioluwa ₦500,000 to support her continued development and pursuit of these opportunities.
This award will help ease some of the financial barriers associated with her next steps, supporting expenses connected to her preparation for international collegiate athletics. It represents an investment in her potential and her determination to continue progressing both on the track and academically.
Looking Ahead
Inioluwa’s journey reflects the challenges many athletes face when financial circumstances interrupt their progress. Her return to competition demonstrates her determination, while her academic ambitions show that she is building a future that extends beyond the track.
As she works towards joining a US college track and field team in Spring 2027 and pursuing further studies in Kinesiology and Exercise Science, she remains focused on turning her ambitions into achievable goals.
At Paragon Sports Development Foundation, we believe that promising athletes deserve opportunities to develop their talent and pursue their education without being held back by financial barriers alone.
Through the Athlete Impact Fund, we remain committed to helping athletes overcome obstacles, access opportunities, and take meaningful steps towards their futures.
Inioluwa’s story is a reminder that setbacks can interrupt a journey, but with resilience and the right support, they do not have to define its destination.
